Terms of Use
Under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, the Policing and Community Safety Authority (the PCSA) shall “determine priorities for An Garda Síochána in performing its functions relating to policing services”.
These priorities assist the Garda Commissioner in identifying areas that require extra focus and/or investment of resources to improve the service delivered to the public.
Consent
Participants over the age of 16 are invited to take part in this anonymised consultation and by doing so confirm their consent for use of their responses in the analysis of results.
Participation
While the consultation is open to all, participants are self-selecting. Therefore, the Authority is aware and acknowledges that the results may not reflect the views of a representative sample of the population.
Consultation
The options provided in the consultation represent the policing services provided by An Garda Síochána. All of these areas are important and will continue being worked on by An Garda Síochána and overseen by the PCSA. However, priorities are important to identify where improvement or extra focus is needed.
It is vital that the Priorities are informed by a wide range of evidence, including the views of those who experience policing and being policed. As such, the priority simulator tool is being used to facilitate the PCSA hearing the views of the public and garda personnel. The information gathered through this consultation will allow the PCSA to better understand what these cohorts believe should be focussed on in particular by An Garda Síochána.
The views gathered through this consultation will form one part of the determination of the Policing Priorities. The PCSA will also consider other factors such as: commitments of An Garda Síochána to existing strategies and projects; trends in crime and society; priorities and challenges in policing internationally; available research; and, the views of other stakeholders.
Considering all of this together will allow the PCSA to determine the Policing Priorities 2026-2028. While not all the options will be on the final list of priorities, the PCSA will continue to monitor Garda performance across all policing services.
Anonymity
The consultation does not seek any information that would allow an individual to be identified. Any information sought in the end survey is optional and will only be used to view how different communities prioritise different areas of service. As such, all results from the public consultation and the optional survey are anonymised and individuals will not be identifiable.
