Human trafficking and modern slavery
The illegal transportation of adults or children for financial or other gain. This can be for the purpose of exploitation through forced involvement in crime, sexual or labour activity, street begging, etc.
Drug importation and production
The supply and/or transportation of large quantities of drugs, mainly to sell in Ireland or other European countries.
Cyber-crime
The use of online methods to undertake criminal acts such as theft, abuse, accessing illegal material (e.g. indecent images of children), etc.
Fraud and economic crime
The use of deception or similar tactics to obtain the money or property of individuals or businesses, or to gain a personal advantage (e.g. blackmail and corruption).
Homicide
Offences covering the victim’s loss of life, including murder, manslaughter, etc.
Damage to Property and the Environment
The intentional damage of property - including buildings, vehicles, possessions, etc. - and the environment, e.g. illegal dumping.
Public order
Activities that cause a breach of the peace, or disorderly conduct, such as public drunkenness, brawling, violent behaviour, and rioting.
Burglary
Breaking into a property with the intention of committing a criminal offence.
Theft
The unauthorised taking of property from an individual or business, including vehicles, personal property, shop stock, etc.
Assault
Physical attacks, including the use of a weapon, on an individual or group.
Street-level and community drug crime
Local drug and drug-related crime, such as drug dealing, possession for personal use, drug related intimidation, etc.
Domestic Abuse and Coercive Control
Abusive behaviour toward a partner or family member, where the abuser uses power or control over the victim to cause mental, physical, economic or sexual harm. Coercive control is the ongoing pattern of such behaviour
Sexual offences
Crimes including rape, sexual assault, incest, child pornography, etc.
Hate crime
The targeting of crime towards individuals or communities based on their age, disability, race, colour, nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender.
Victim services
The provision of information and supports to victims, including updates on investigations, crime prevention advice, support in a court setting, etc.
Mental health
Response to incidents involving people suffering from mental health incidents or emergencies.
Anti-corruption
Ensuring Garda members and staff act in line with the law. Investigating those suspected of engaging in illegal activity and/or taking advantage of their powers and access to vulnerable people for personal gain.
Community policing and engagement
Supporting, building and maintaining connections with, local communities, in all their diversity, to better understand community concerns/issues.
Road safety
The prevention and detection of dangerous driving, speeding, mobile phone use, non-seatbelt wearing, and other offences.
Event management
Providing services such as crowd and traffic management at community and large-scale events, including sporting events, concerts, protests and demonstrations.
Anti-social behaviour
Low level criminal or non-criminal behaviour that has an impact on communities' quality of life. Such as excessive noise, vandalism, intimidation, loitering, etc.
Garda Vetting
Processing checks on individuals who will be working or volunteering with children and vulnerable adults. Requested by organisations before hiring.
Crime prevention
Engagement with communities and stakeholders to provide advice on preventing crime and keeping safe, e.g. through information campaigns, meetings, etc.
Immigration
The registration of non-nationals in the state, and the prevention and detection of illegal immigration.
